Reputation VS Representation
Philippians: 5-7 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; 7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
What do you do when you face challenges that expose your inadequacies? What do you do when you face challenges that expose your weaknesses? Sometimes God allows us to face circumstances that seem so much bigger than us that we really don't feel qualified to take on the challenge. Then there are those times that we feel we are ready for something greater and we just wish God would give us what we desire. For instance, some feel they are ready for management and wish for promotion. Some feel they are ready for promotion, but feel they are overlooked. Then there are those that feel outright disrespected in certain environments. We can't afford to become paralyzed or crippled by 'reputation.'
Lets quickly look at David and Goliath. David said to Goliath you come as a Champion, but I come as a representative. Goliath's trust was in his reputation as a champion, but David's confidence was in the One he represented. Representation is much more valuable, because it speaks of who you are right now, but reputation speaks of who you were. In the scriptures above, there is ONE greater than us who took off his reputation so that he could be a very powerful representation of God and His Kingdom. He didn't use his reputation to his own advantage, he didn't use what he was accustomed to keep him from being the best representative he could be. In unfavorable circumstances he still shined in character, integrity, and love. He was due a throne, but he accepted a cross.
Many believe we were born on purpose and for purpose. We believe that every life is equipped to offer a solution to a problem in the world. If we truly believe we're sent, we should also believe that we didn't come for a name, we came with a name. I will say that again. We did not come for a name, we came with a name. Reputation may win fans, but representation wins fights. Reputation may win followers, but representation wins the favor of God. Don't get caught up in the resume, keep being caught up in God. Favor from God takes you much further than reputation. As representatives God promises to exalt us in due season. In due time your representation will take you much further than your reputation. Until then, walk humbly.
